Vaccinations:
6-8 weeks of age: DISTEMPER, HEPATITIS & PARVOVIRUS (C3
vaccination). This is called ‘temporary vaccination’.
12 Weeks: DISTEMPER, HEPATITIS, PARVOVIRUS, PARAINFLUENZA
& BORDATELLA (C5 vaccination). This is their ‘first permanent
vaccination’. 15 Weeks: DISTEMPER, HEPATITIS,
PARVOVIRUS, PARAINFLUENZA & BORDATELLA (C5 vaccination)
It is recommended following the above recommendations, however you
can elect not to vaccinate against Parainfluenza and Bordatella if
desired.
Intestinal worms: Roundworms in puppies ARE a health
threat to people. All puppies should be wormed every 2 weeks until
3 months. From 6 months of age onwards your dog should be wormed
with a good quality intestinal all-wormer every 3 months.
Heartworm Prevention & Flea Control: At 3 months
of age it is recommended to begin heartworm prevention and flea
control.
Pet registration: Every dog over the age of six months
must be registered each year with your local council. Please contact
your local council for more information and application forms.
Diets: Puppies need a BALANCED diet if they are to
grow strong and healthy. Up to 12 weeks of age they should eat 4
meals a day reducing to 3 meals until 6 months of age.
NB: added supplements are unnecessary provided you are feeding a
fully balanced and nutritionally complete puppy food. These foods
will supply all of the puppy’s nutritional requirements at
this time of great demand.
Puppies also need the opportunity to chew: chewing
large raw bones, raw-hide chews or specially designed chew toys
will help to keep their teeth clean and breath fresh. |
